Meow the 76th – Campus Cats

Augsburg University, Germany, has got one, Voronezh State University (VSU), Russia, has got one. The Technical University Graz (TU) Austria, has got one. And other universities certainly have them, too: a campus cat.

Just like any decent cat, the campus cats have their own social media accounts: The CampusCat Augsburg was recently looking for a social media manager for his facebook account, and VSU Cat Lisa is active on instagram. And, while the TU cat is not yet present on social media, the cat featured in a very succesful post on the TU’s official facebook channel. And several sources have confirmed that a cat does exist and apparently has a magnetic chip to open the doors at university.

Lucky universities, lucky students, and lucky staff. Campus cats are good luck charms, and everyone is happy to see them and take a photo of them in lecture halls, in the library, or outside on campus.
Unlucky universities, unlucky students, and unlucky staff who do not have their campus cat or cannot have one for whatever reasons? No, because no one needs to despair: soft toy cats have taken on the role of honorary campus cats.

There is Fergus, a cat who, on his own twitter account, tweets about life as a part-time lecturer dealing with research, conference presentations, teaching, and marking.

There is Emma, the department cat at the Institute of International Management (UAS Graz, Austria), who regularly photobombs the photos of the department on instagram.
There are most certainly more campus cats out there, and that is good.
PS: if you know of other campus cats, please let me know.
