Meow the Eighth – Critical Cats

Cat is short for cat-egories here. So far the cat-egories for the qualitative content analysis of articles about cats in the news are:

  • cute cat stories
  • cats and health
  • homeless cats
  • feral cats
  • cat abuse
  • cats and economy

The first cat-egorisation will be done along the items on the list above. In the first step, the articles will be tagged, or ‘coded’ as it is called in qualitative content analysis, as ‘cute cat story’ or ‘cats and economy’, for example. In a second step, more cat-egories will be added to arrive at a more compehensive analysis on a textual level.

This list of cat-egories is not the final list. As is common in qualitative content analysis, more cat-egories can appear during the analysis of the articles.
