Meow the Tenth – Grumpy Economy? Nah.

Grumpy Cat

Despite Grumpy Cat soft toys being recalled (see Grumpy Cat stuffed animals recalled, Grumpy Cat doesn’t care), Grumpy Cat is an economic success. Grumpy, whose real name is Tardar Sauce, has her own merchandise ranging from T-shirts, wall calendars, books, mugs, magnets, and odor eliminator. Grumpy has become spokescat for Friskies. (see 8,200 Stuffed Grumpy Cats Recalled, Are Unhappy About It)

On her own website www.grumpycats.com, the cat, or rather the management behind her, posts “The Daily Grump”, and visitors are encouraged to check out more merchandise.

Other Grumpy goodies include coffee drinks and apps.

As of today, Grumpy Cat has 4,263,096 likes on facebook (TheOfficialGrumpyCat, 138,396 followers on twitter (RealGrumpyCat. Grumpy Cat is also present on tumblr, google+, and instagram.

With all her social media presence, media appearances, and merchandise, Grumpy Cat surely does not really feel grumpy about her success. At least, her management has every reason to laugh.

Strangely enough they seem to have missed the huge market potential of purring. The purring of cats is, besides beeing pleasant when coming from a real cat, also, technically spoken in a frequency range that could have healing capacities (for a first review try to enter healing and purring into Google). So it can only be a matter of time until the first soul-healing tea cup which is purring happily away will be produced. Perhaps not by Grumpy Cat though, as it is after all supposed to be grumpy not happy 😉
